We live in a world where wellness has become… well, a bit exhausting.
Drink the water.
Hit 10,000 steps.
Journal every morning.
Go sugar-free (but not fun-free).
And for heaven’s sake, don’t forget the collagen powder.
It’s easy to wake up and feel like you’re already behind.
That somehow, being well is another job to do — one more thing to tick off between the school run, work deadlines, and trying to remember what you walked into the kitchen for.
But what if wellness wasn’t a to-do list?
What if it was a feeling?
Wellness isn’t one-size-fits-all
After 30 years in the fitness and wellness industry — and 15 years of running my own practice — one thing I know for sure is this: true wellness is deeply personal.
It shifts as you do.
It ebbs and flows with your hormones, your energy, your seasons of life.
And it cannot be measured by step counts or smoothie ingredients.
Especially in midlife, the rules change.
What used to work might stop feeling right. And instead of pushing harder, what we often need is to pause… and listen.
Wellness is not a performance
There’s a lot of noise out there.
Shiny morning routines.
“Clean” eating.
Wellness challenges.
All telling you to do more, be more, optimise more.
But here’s the truth I want to share with you:
You are not a project. And you don’t need fixing.
Sometimes, wellness looks like Pilates.
Other times it looks like stillness.
Sometimes it’s nourishing food.
Other times it’s the soul-hug of a chocolate biscuit.
Sometimes it’s showing up to class.
Other times it’s staying home, lying down, and breathing deeply — without guilt.
Reclaiming wellness on your terms
What if we stopped treating wellness like another job, and started treating it like a relationship?
What if it felt more like this:
- Moving because it brings you back to yourself
- Eating to support your mood, energy and joy — not to punish or restrict
- Letting your skin breathe without needing a 12-step routine
- Feeling seen, heard and cared for — through touch, movement, stillness or conversation
- Listening to your body instead of overriding it with pressure
That’s the kind of wellness I believe in.
The kind I support my clients in discovering — with options, not obligations.
With curiosity, not criticism.
There’s always an option
You’ll often hear me say this — because it’s at the heart of how I work:
There’s always an option.
Life is about trusting the process and enjoying the journey.
Whether you’re on the mat, on the massage table, or simply navigating the ups and downs of midlife, your wellness doesn’t need to be perfect.
It just needs to be honest.
